This hat is very similar to an Austrailian outback hat-in fact you can snap up a side or two if wanted for style or comfort. It’s wonderful for keeping the sun off my face and back of neck. It is comfortable and decent looking. It comes with a “tie” so it won’t blow away-it might blow off my head, but it won’t blow away!

The hat arrived very quickly and was packed well. No problems with the company, I would recommend them!

This hat is the best hiking hat I’ve found. It keeps the sun out of the eyes and off the neck for most of the day. Although there is room for improvement, I have yet to find a hat that does the job better. However, for the instruction of those who in the future will be designing hats for hikers and fishermen, here goes.

1. There should be a bright white version of this hat. There isn’t.

2. This hat is over-dyed. The dyes used to color this hat will wash out, up to a point. I bought a blue version of this hat from Simply Fashions (via eBay), and after a half-dozen washes blue dye was still oozing out during the rinsing and wringing. So I steamed the hat in Rit dye remover to get out as much of the dye as I could, and in fact a lot more dye did come out. But after doing all that, the hat was a nicer, somewhat lighter shade of blue than it had been before. Why the (Chinese) manufacturer used so much dye is a mystery.

3. The brim could be perhaps a half-inch wider. More brim is better, at least until the hat starts looking silly.

4. The fabric on the flat top of the hat is too thin. Around the sides of the crown, it’s OK. But if you hold the hat up to the light and look at the top, you can see pinpricks of light where the fabric weave holes are. Those holes are big enough to let the UV pour through. So the new, improved version of this hat should have a double layer of cloth there, and not merely a single layer.

I’ve been looking for this type of head since I moved to south FL . I mainly use it when I work around the yard, and it keeps my head relatively cool with its ventilation holes . Whenever I go out on a boat, this hat’s flap becomes really handy in keeping my ears & neck from being sun burned . It is made in China, nevertheless the quality is very good . The string & collar clip is a neat idea to keep the hat from blown off into the water ! It is definitely not for the fashion constious but it is very practical and does keep the sun off for sure.
